Surgery is usually the main treatment if the cancer hasn’t spread to other parts of the body. If there’s a higher chance that the cancer could come back after surgery, you might be given an immunotherapy drug to help lower that risk.
Doctors do not know the exact cause of kidney cancer. Like many other cancers, it usually develops due to a combination of factors rather than one single cause. However, we do know that certain things can increase your risk of getting kidney cancer.
Older age
Smoking
Being overweight or obese
High blood pressure
Long-term dialysis (treatment for kidney failure)
Family history of kidney cancer
Having one or more of these risk factors does not mean you will definitely get kidney cancer, but it may increase your chances. If you are concerned about your risk, talk to your doctor about ways to protect your kidney health.
