Risk Factors

A risk factor is any characteristic, behavior, or condition that increases your chances of getting a disease. Here are some known risk factors for developing Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD):

Molar pregnancy

Prior history of hydatidiform mole / molar pregnancy

Women who have previously been diagnosed with hydatidiform mole / molar pregnancy have an increased risk for another in future pregnancies.

Risk of molar pregnancy is greatest in women over the age of 35 or under the age of 20.

GTD can occur after any type of pregnancy (full term, preterm, spontaneous abortion)
