Questions to Ask the Doctor

It is important to have honest, open discussions with your doctors and nurses. Feel free to ask questions, even if they seem trivial. It is a good idea to write your questions down so you will remember to ask them during each appointment. Here are some important questions you may want to ask:

  • What is liver cancer and what type of liver cancer do I have?
  • What stage is my liver cancer and what does that mean?
  • What are my treatment options?
  • Am I eligible for a liver transplant?
  • What do you think my best choice is and why?
  • Are there any side effects to the treatment options? If so, what are the side effects
    of each treatment?
  • Is there anything I can do to help with treatment of my cancer?
  • Is there anything I can do to help improve my liver function?
  • Would you recommend that I think about participating in a clinical trial?

It may be a good idea to seek a second opinion, especially from a doctor experienced in treating liver cancer. A second opinion can help you better understand your disease and feel more confident about your course of treatment.
