mammograms

What's the difference between a normal or traditional mammogram and the 3-D mammogram?  Is one better than the other?

A traditional mammogram produces 2 views of flat images of breast tissue from top to bottom and see to side. Overlapping tissue can make detecting abnormalities difficult.

A 3D mammogram provides multiple images from different angles of  breast tissue.  This reduces the tissue overlapping and improves detection of any abnormalities.

Both types of mammograms are important for breast cancer screening, but 3D mammograms offer more detailed information, which can be beneficial to patients with dense breast.
