What is the Liver?

Located in the upper right section of the abdomen under the ribs, the liver is the largest internal organ in the body. The liver has two lobes: a right lobe and a left lobe. Its primary functions include releasing bile into the intestines to aid in digestion, breaking down and storing nutrients, clearing medications from the body, and removing toxic substances from the blood. The liver also produces clotting factors, which prevent excessive blood loss from minor injuries.

What is Hepatoblastoma?

Hepatoblastoma is a rare form of primary liver cancer found only in children. This disease mainly affects children between infancy and 5 years of age, and the majority of cases occur in children younger than 18 months of age. Hepatoblastomas may spread to other parts of the body, most often the lungs or abdomen.
