Risk Factors
A risk factor is any behavior, characteristic, or condition that raises the possibility of developing a disease. Here are some of the risk factors for developing cardiac tumors:
Family History
About 10% of myxomas run in families.
Health Conditions
History of conditions such as LAMB Syndrome and Carney Syndrome may increase the risk for developing cardiac tumors.

Age
Cardiac tumors typically form in people aged 50 and older, but can still form in younger people as well.
Other Tumors
Malignant tumors in other parts of the body that can spread to the heart significantly increase the risk of developing cardiac tumors.
Cardiac tumors form from cell overgrowth that starts or moves to the heart; risk factors like the ones mentioned above are not usually the main cause of cardiac tumors.
