Symptoms
Most breast lumps in men are caused by a harmless condition known as gynecomastia. Gynecomastia is a swelling or enlargement of breast tissue in men, caused by a hormone imbalance. Gynecomastia is most common in boys going through puberty, and usually clears up on its own. However, if you have any of the following symptoms, contact a doctor as soon as possible.
- A lump or mass in the breast tissue or underarm
- Swelling or thickening of the breast tissue
- Change in the color or texture of the skin (dimpled, scaly, red, flaky)
- Nipple turned inward
- Nipple discharge
- Swelling lymph nodes under the armpits
