Symptoms

Early-stage cervical cancer usually does not cause any symptoms, which is why regular pap screening exams are so important. When cervical cancer does cause symptoms, they may include the following:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding (i.e. after menopause, between periods, or having very heavy flows)
  • Pain or bleeding during or after intercourse
  • Persistent or abnormal vaginal discharge
  • Pain in the pelvis
  • Frequent urination
  • Leg inflammation or swelling
