Staging

Metastatic colorectal cancer refers to stage IV of colorectal cancer. In this specific stage, the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. If your cancer has metastasized to the liver or lungs and can be completely removed, your doctor may recommend surgical resection. Surgery offers the best chance to cure metastatic colorectal cancer. If your cancer is too widespread, your doctor will most likely recommend chemotherapy, targeted therapy, biological therapy, or a combination of these. Participation in clinical trials to treat the disease may also be an option.
