Questions to Ask the Doctor

It is important to have honest, open discussions with your doctors and nurses. Feel free to ask questions, even if they seem trivial. It is a good idea to write your questions down so you will remember to ask them during each appointment. Here are some important questions you may want to ask:

  • What is hepatoblastoma?
  • What stage is my child's hepatoblastoma? What does that mean?
  • What are my child's treatment options?
  • What do you think is my child's best choice and why?
  • Are there any side effects to the treatment options? If so, what are the side effects of each treatment?
  • Is there anything I can do to help with treatment of my child's cancer?
  • Would you recommend that I consider a clinical trial?

Hepatoblastoma is a rare tumor and it takes special expertise to properly diagnose and treat. It may be a good idea to seek a second opinion, especially from a center experienced in treating liver cancer. A second opinion can give additional information and help increase confidence in your treatment plan.
